Shop at my Local is an award winning partnership with the aim to encourage residents and businesses to buy locally, and to facilitate local supply chains.
The campaign encourages the District's shopping areas (Hockley, Rayleigh, Rochford and surrounding areas) to meet their full potential by creating thriving community centres that offer a unique and enjoyable shopping experience.
The work of Shop at my Local continues through the local Chambers of Trade and Town Teams.
The aim of a Town Team is described by the Department for Communities and Local Government as a body which will '...drive innovation and improvement in the way the current high street is managed, develop a strategic and collaborative approach, and be made up of a wide range of local interests including landlords, retailers, local authorities and local communities.' (Portas Prospectus, February 2012). Currently within the Rochford District we have two Town Teams called Rayleigh Town Team and Rochford Town Team, however we are currently working on rolling out Town Teams to include Hockley so all our main three shopping centres have one.
The local Chambers of Trade (Hockley, Rayleigh and Rochford) are the principal link between the local commercial and business community providing it with a voice both locally and nationally. The Chambers provides a platform for businesses to communicate; providing support, promotion and the opportunity for local businesses to network and work with each other.
